এই ক্যাম্পেইনটি ছায়া কৃষি মন্ত্রনালয়ের অধীনে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সংলগ্ন সালমানপুর এলাকাতে গত ২৫ সেপ্টেম্বর পরিচালিত হয়।
মানুষকে সবজি চাষে উদ্বুদ্ধ করার জন্য তারা “প্লাস্টিকের বিনিময়ে বীজ বিতরণ ” নামক কৌশল অবলম্বন করে। এতে করে মানুষ সবজি চাষে আগ্রহী হয়ে উঠবেন বলে আশাবাদী তারা। তাছাড়া প্লাস্টিক পরিবেশের জন্য ক্ষতিকারক। ফলে সাধারণ মানুষের প্লাস্টিক ব্যবহারে সচেতনেতাও বৃদ্ধি পাবে।
বর্তমানে দ্রব্যমূল্যের ঊর্ধ্বগতির কারণে গ্রামের অধিকাংশ মানুষ সবজি কিনে আনতে পারে না। ফলে তারা বিভিন্ন ধরনের পুষ্টিহীনতায় ভুগে। মানুষের পুষ্টি চাহিদা মেটানোর পাশাপাশি তাদের পারিবারিক আয় বৃদ্ধিতে সহায়তা করার জন্য তারা এই ক্যাম্পেইনটি পরিচালনা করেন।
এই কর্মসূচিতে ৮টি সবজি গাছের উন্নতমানের বীজ বিতরণ করা হয়।এগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছে করলা, লাউ, চালকুমড়া, মরিচ, ঝিঙা, পুঁইশাক, শিম ও ধুন্দল। ক্যাম্পেইন পরিচালনা নিয়ে গ্রুপ সদস্য নাজমুস সাকিব বলেন, “যে টাকা দিয়ে আমরা প্রতিদিন সবজি ক্রয় করি সেই টাকা দিয়ে যদি বীজ কিনে বাড়ির আঙিনায় বা পতিত জমিতে চাষ করা হয়, তাহলে আমাদের পারিবারিক চাহিদা মেটানো যায়।”
এছাড়া বর্তমান বাজারে সবজিতে থাকা মাত্রাতিরিক্ত সার ও কীটনাশকের বিষয়টি তুলে ধরেন তিনি। যা মানুষের জন্য খুবই ক্ষতিকর। দ্রব্যমূল্যের উর্ধ্বগতি এবং রাসায়নিক পদার্থের ক্ষতিকর প্রভাব থেকে বাঁচতে আমাদের সবজিগুলো নিজেদের চাষ করা উচিত বলে মনে করেন ক্যাম্পইনের ভলেন্টিয়াররা।
এ নিয়ে নারী কৃষক মমতাজ বেগম বলেন, “আমার বাড়ি বোর্ডমার্কেটের পিছনে। আমার বাড়ির পিছনে অনেকটা খালি জায়গা আছে। এতোদিন বাড়ির আঙ্গিনা পতিত পড়ে থাকতো। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্রছাত্রীদের কাছ থেকে সবজি চাষের কথা শোনার পর আমি তাদের কাছ থেকে প্লাস্টিকের বোতল দিয়ে বীজ সংগ্রহ করি। বীজ রোপনের পর সবগুলোই গাছ উঠেছে।”
কৃষক রমজান আলী বলেন, “দামের ঊর্ধ্বগতির কারণে আমাদের হিমশিম খেতে হয়। বাজারে আমি একটি লাউ দেখে আসলাম ৮০টাকা। বাজারে সবকিছুর দাম বেশি।তাই আমরা বাড়ির আঙিনায় সবজি চাষ করলে আমরা আমাদের চাহিদা মেটাতে পারব। পাশাপাশি বাড়তি আয়ও করা সম্ভব।”
সদর দক্ষিণ উপজেলার কৃষি অফিসার মো: জুনায়েদ কবির খানকে ‘বাড়ির আঙিনায় সবজি চাষ কতটা ফলপ্রসূ সে সম্পর্কে জিজ্ঞেস করলে তিনি বলেন, ” বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীদের এরকম কাজ প্রশংসনীয়। এতে করে মানুষের মধ্যে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি পাবে। আর আমার উপজেলায় শতভাগ সবজি চাষ করে পারিবার চাহিদা মেটানো যায় আমি তার খেয়াল রাখি। এছাড়া আমরা মাঠ পর্যায়ে গিয়ে তাদের বুঝিয়ে সবজি সাজে উদ্ধুদ্ধ করা, এর সুফল এবং কেমন করে নিজেদের চাহিদা মিটিয়ে সবজি বাজারজাতকরণও সম্ভব তার উপায় বলে তাদের মাঝে সচেতনতা সৃষ্টি করি। ”
